Whaiora Medical Centre is a choice in healthcare for:

  • Masterton Māori and Pacific people and 
  • Masterton people who have found it difficult to access or afford healthcare. 

Our doctors are Dr Pete Morrison and Dr Christiane Schmidt.  Katie Inker is our Nurse Practitioner.  The doctors are supported by nursing and administrative staff.  Our staff at Whaiora Medical Centre work closely with our Community Health Workers, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Health Promoters, and Stop Smoking Coaches.


Our Medical Centre is open Monday - Friday 8.30am – 5.00pm.  Appointments are available between these times.

PLEASE NOTE: During peak times, such as winter colds and flu season, we do have appointments available daily with one of our qualified medical professionals. If you require an urgent appoinment, we will transfer you to speak directly with our oncall Practice Nurse.

Whaiora Medical Centre is closed on Public Holidays. 

Car parking is available directly outside Whaiora in our car parks at 394 Queen Street or on the street. Some unmetered parks are available.

If you require medical care Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays, The Wairarapa After Hours Service provide urgent medical care 9am-5pm at Masterton Medical Centre, at the back of the old Hospital, 4 Colombo Road, Masterton. Telephone 06 370 0011.

Unsure if you need a doctor? Ring HEALTHLINE on 0800 611 116 for free advice 24 hours a day. Healthline is a free telephone health service available for all New Zealand families. The service is staffed by registered nurses who will assess your health needs, and give information and advice to help you decide on the best level of care.

All other health and social services provided by Whaiora are at no cost to our clients.



Making payment easy

We understand that visits to our medical centre are often unexpected and it’s not always easy to pay on the day. We offer two payment options:

• pay on the day before your consultation OR

• automatic payments set up at the time of enrolment

Automatic payments are credited to your Whaiora account. The cost of each consultation and any materials will be deducted from your account balance. 

Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions for certain stable conditions can be requested via our website link below, via our repeat prescription phoneline between 8.30am and 5pm Monday - Friday or via reception between 8.30am and 5pm Monday - Friday.  

A minimum of 2 working days notice is required for non urgent repeat prescriptions. 

A fee will be charged which is payable before collection. 

If you have not seen a doctor within the last 6 months, you will be required to book a doctors visit.

The Whaiora Medical Centre offers:

    • guided care – nurse clinics for people with long-term conditions including diabetes, heart disease, asthma and other respiratory problems
    • immunisations
    • flu vaccinations
    • sexual Health
    • contraceptive advice 
    • cervical smears
    • blood tests
